In 2016 I’m doing a 365 Nature project. Each day of the year I will post something here about nature. It may be any format, a photo, video, audio, sketch or entry from my nature journal. It could be a written piece. Each day I will connect to nature in some way and share it here by the end of that day. You can keep up-to-date by subscribing to the RSS feed or be notified by email. See all the 365 Nature posts.

Our Seattle weather has alternated between blue skies and black clouds today and I’ve been under the weather with a cold. While avoiding any real work I was looking at my many open browser tabs which seem to be perpetually open. In one I found a podcast I’d been meaning to listen to and finally did today. It was a Radiolab podcast featuring British nature writer Dave Goulson, who I saw speak here in Seattle a few months back. It’s a very entertaining story about the Death Watch beetle.

Biologist Dave Goulson introduces us to the lonely yearnings of an especially pathetic beetle and snatches a sound back from the hands of the devil himself.
