STREET CREATURES QUIZ

What is Street Creatures?  This is the game I run on Twitter every Friday. I’ve
collected all the past quizzes here in one place so you can either relive them, or play
them for the first time.

How does it work?  Provided are four, seemingly unrelated clues, that are all
connected by a wild organism that can be found in a city. Look at the four clues,
do some research, and when you think you’ve figured it out, click on ‘Answer’
to reveal what connects the clues, and how they are connected.

Follow me on Twitter to play #StreetCreatures live every Friday at 9am PST.

False Black Widow (Steatoda grossa)

Woodlice:

This spider likes to lurk in dark corners and has a prey preference for woodlice, as well as black widows.

Spider-Man:

In the 2002 Spider-Man movie, Steatoda grossa had a role as the spider that bit Peter Parker. Its costume was painted on with red and blue stripes.

False:

This spider is very similar in appearance to the infamous black widow, and as such one of the common names for it is the ‘false black widow’. But this species lacks the red hourglass.

Blister:

IF you could get Steatoda grossa to bite you, which is not an easy feat, the worst that would happen is you may get a blister. Fear of these spiders is VASTLY exaggerated.
