STREET CREATURES QUIZ

What is Street Creatures?  This is the game I run on Twitter every Friday. I’ve
collected all the past quizzes here in one place so you can either relive them, or play
them for the first time.

How does it work?  Provided are four, seemingly unrelated clues, that are all
connected by a wild organism that can be found in a city. Look at the four clues,
do some research, and when you think you’ve figured it out, click on ‘Answer’
to reveal what connects the clues, and how they are connected.

Follow me on Twitter to play #StreetCreatures live every Friday at 9am PST.

Tardigrade

SB-3:

This is the name of an individual tardigrade of the species Acutuncus antarcticus who was thawed after being frozen for over 30 years in the Antarctic. It stands for ‘Sleeping Beauty 3’.

Eutelic:

When they reach maturity, tardigrades have a fixed number of somatic cells.

Stylet:

Tardigrades have a piercing mouthpart known as a stylet that they use to suck out the contents of plants or animals. When they molt, they shed and grow and entirely new stylet.

Anhydrobiotic:

When they dry out or desiccate, tardigrades have the ability to turn into a tun and go into a state of cryptobiosis, shutting down their bodies while they wait for water to return.
