What is Street Creatures? This is the game I run on Twitter every Friday. I’ve
collected all the past quizzes here in one place so you can either relive them, or play
them for the first time.
How does it work? Provided are four, seemingly unrelated clues, that are all
connected by a wild organism that can be found in a city. Look at the four clues,
do some research, and when you think you’ve figured it out, click on ‘Answer’
to reveal what connects the clues, and how they are connected.
Follow me on Twitter to play #StreetCreatures live every Friday at 9am PST.
Salmon
Forest:
Spawning salmon are important to coastal ecosystems and help feed forests. Their rotting bodies have far-reaching impacts on the forests and streams.
Loki:
After Loki helped kill Balder, he hid on a mountain in a stream and lived as a salmon under a waterfall. But Thor caught him as he tried to jump and held onto his tail, and that’s why today, a salmon has a slender tail.
Orcas:
There are two food preferences for orcas, transients prefer mammals, but our residents rely on salmon. Because salmon are in bad shape, so are the orcas.
Beavers:
Long thought to be detrimental to salmon, beaver dams are actually important because they create pools vital to juvenile salmon shelter in winter to avoid being swept downstream in high flow events. And that’s not all.
