365 Nature – Day 36
In 2016 I’m doing a 365 Nature project. Each day of the year I will post something here about nature. It may be any format, a photo, video, audio, sketch or entry from my nature journal. It could be a written piece. Each day I will connect to nature in some way and share it here by the end of that day. You can keep up-to-date by subscribing to the RSS feed or be notified by email. See all the 365 Nature posts.
This morning the skies were beautiful again and I think I’m becoming a little obsessed over our winter skies. They’re so dramatic and change so constantly. When viewed with Lake Washington in the foreground the reflection of the colors is really stunning. We had to make a quick stop at Madrona Park this morning so I could take a few photos of that scene.
After I dropped my daughter off at school I stopped to watch and listen to a Dark-eyed Junco singing, that’s the third bird in the last week or so I’ve watched singing. Tis the season.
Later in the day I had time for a walk in Washington Park Arboretum and I chose to walk through Marsh and Foster Islands. The landscape has changed dramatically since I first started visiting a few years ago with the construction of a new 520 bridge. It continues to change even now. Somehow the birds are still there though, today I saw a large flock of American Wigeon with American Coots. There were also Pied-billed Grebes, a pair of Hooded Mergansers, Common Mergansers, Gadwall, Double-breasted Cormorant, Kingfisher, Mallards, Buffleheads, Ring-necked Ducks and I watched a Cooper’s Hawk harass some ducks.
Kelly has a certificate from the University of Washington in non-fiction writing. She continually takes classes and attends talks on various natural history topics. In 2009 she earned a bachelors degree in landscape architecture from the University of Oregon.
She's also an avid photographer focusing on the natural world.
